[1308] Of Joe: Ignore ‘goblok’ minister

Today, in The Moon:

ACCALAM: The public should be wise in identifying goblok minister (Indonesian slang for “stupid”), who is willing to be tool of others to destroy civil society, said Disinformation Minister Nenek Gelam Nudeen Mydeen.

“The minister does not have intelligence and leans toward stupidity because he is uneducated.

“Thus, he assumes stupidity is better. The goblok minister only has his own interests at heart and should be ignored,” the minister said after launching the Jalur Gemilang Convoy 2007 at the Bandar Hulu here yesterday.

Earlier in his speech, Mydeen said that the convoy of 50 four-wheel drive vehicles that would travel throughout Malaysia was important to re-instill illusion of Merdeka in the people.

He said the participants would be able to see the poverty of the countryside while traveling in luxurious air-conditioned gas-guzzlers throughout their journey. [Joe: Ignore ‘goblok’ minister. The Moon. July 31 2007]

[1252] Of Article 152 of the Malaysian Constitution

The Malaysian Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin declares that the new (or old; flip-flopping that is common under the Badawi regime makes the old-new dichotomy useless) Malaysian national language is the Malaysian language.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bahasa Malaysia will again be the official term to be used to refer to the national language.

In a unanimous decision last April, the Cabinet felt that reverting to the term Bahasa Malaysia would help inculcate a sense of belonging for all citizens irrespective of race, said Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin. [Back to Bahasa Malaysia. The Star. June 4 2007]

But Article 152 of the Malaysia Constitution says the national language is the Malay language.

Do tell me if there is a translation error. Or, do tell me if the Constitution is a worthless piece of paper. If the Constitution is worthless, then the time is ripe for a spring revolution!

[1013] Of dear minister, what if the communists…

I’m attracted to a post by The Sensintrovert that highlights an episode on the current communist memorial controversy between Malaysian information minister Zainuddin Maidin and certain fraction within the Chinese Malaysian community. In the article by Bernama:

Zainuddin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Merbok, had alleged during a speech at a Merbok Puteri Umno function last week that such memorials had been found at private Chinese cemeteries in Sarawak and in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

According to him, memorials should only be erected for those who had fought for the country’s independence or against the communists, irrespective of which group or movement they belonged to.

Dear minister, what if the communists had fought for Malayan independence? When the communists were fighting for Malayan independence, where was UMNO?

The communists did fight for Malayan independence and by your own qualification, memorials for the communists could be erected.

Regardless, not that I support typical communist ideals, sir, it’s none of your business. Those memorials are on private properties.

“We should not pay tribute to one movement or group that involved only a particular race but individuals or larger organisations that had played instrumental roles for the benefit of all the races in the country,” he said.

Oh, really? What about UMNO which its membership involved only a particular race?
