[1851] Of chairs and tables

For some reasons, I am attracted to repeating pattern made possible by chairs and tables.

This is a scene from the Boh Tea Centre in Sungai Palas, Cameron Highlands.

There is something wrong with the picture but I do not know what.

[1816] Of steamed corns by the road

Several must buy stuff in Cameron Highlands: strawberries, flowers and sweet corns.

Sigh, I am not quite in a blogging mood at the moment.

I know, the car at the top of the picture is distracting but I want to have that yellow line in it. That line sort of strengthens the idea that this is right besides the road.

[1815] Of an observation deck in Sungai Palas

I like this one.

The observation deck is part of a beautifully designed long structure owned by Boh — a famed producer of tea in Malaysia — housing a cafe, a tea shop and a small museum. My favorite part of the building is the cafe which finds itself hanging in midair, overlooking the tea farm in Sungai Palas, Cameron Highlands.

Boh has a website about the place.

[1811] Of the photographer returns!

Enough economics and politics because now is a time to take a break.

This was on a tea farm in Cameron Highlands. This is the reason why this blog was quiet for three full days.

p/s — since Boris (not Boris the mayor. It’s this Boris instead) commented on my Flikr site and said he wanted to check my blog to find out more about the picture, I am only compelled to offer more description.

These are firewoods for the furnace. Waiting to be sacrificed to transform tea leaves into tea powder, this is just outside of the tea processing plant. Our tour began from the beginning of the process where fresh leaves are left to be dried before further processing. As we moved farther along the processes, the smell of fresh tea leaves began to succumb the smell of real tea.

Tea powder was everywhere inside and I was kind of concerned how that might affect my camera. The heat was also slightly unconfortable, despite the fact that Cameron Highlands has a cool environment and that it had rained just earlier.

You liked that Boris?

Man, you have to visit Malaysia while I am still here. And time is running out!

[1073] Of farms of Brinchang, Cameron Highlands

Most people recognize Cameron Highlands of its tea production. And occasionally, strawberries. The stress on tea and strawberries is really misleading. It is more than that; Cameron Highlands is a major agricultural center in Malaysia. In fact, I probably would not be guilty of exaggeration if I stated that without Cameron Highlands, Singapore would have a serious shortage of greens.

I stayed in Brinchang — one of the major settlements there — for two days last week and in front of my room was a valley of farms:

This is really in the middle of a huge jungle complex:

The environmental damage here seems to be minimal. This is probably because this area has been opened long ago. For areas such as the Bertam Valley however, the disregard for the environment is hard to miss.
