[49] Of growing community

The __earth Inc. has grown to 13 members plus a few interested participants who are joining the photographic project. This is a good sign considering that the membership number has grown slowly before the start of March. Joining the community is free and the activities are usually tied to the net only. The organization’s community can be found at http://www.communityzero.com/__earth and at http://beta.communityzero.com/__earth. Join it and help us save the lovely Earth.

On recent news, the photographic project is going fine. I’ve added six new photographs in the gallery section.

My thanks to Fahmi and Mr. Gilmore. More to come after the Naked Mile on April 22nd 2002.

[48] Of SDR-3X

Already we have turned all of our critical industries, all of our material resources, over to these . . . things . . . these lumps of silver and paste we call nanorobots. And now we propose to teach them intelligence? What, pray tell, will we do when these little homunculi awaken one day and announce that they have no further need of us?
– Sister Miriam Godwinson, “We Must Dissent” – Alpha Centauri

For the past few years, Sony, the Japanese transnational corporation has certainly been active in its industry, particularly in robotic technology. Aibo is one of its famous robotic products that are not alien to the society wide. In fact, society loves it because the dog robot has the ability to act almost exactly like a real pet dog. What is more astounding is the latest artificial life form humanoid called SDR-3X.

The idea of artificial life form probably came from the early 20th century when great science-fiction starts to flourish all the sudden. During this period, Isaac Asimov was born in Russia and migrated to the United States. Of all the visionaries, he certainly earns the title father of robotic. He wrote the influential Robot series and made the world wonders how the future will look like. Nevertheless, as people once ignored Jules Verne, his idea was shoved off as science-fiction.

However, science-fiction seems almost always turn into reality.

During the release of SDR-3X, a representative from Sony announced that the next challenge is not creating a more sophisticated mechanical humanoid but instead, the challenge is building a robot that can feels feelings as a human would.

Human for certain will live life with a new companion and that companion will not necessarily be carbon-based life forms. It could be something that is made of aluminium. Even now, some people have Aibo as their pet instead of Garfield or Lassie.

Human is truly an amazing creature. From stupidity, they rose to reach for the stars literally. Day by day, human knowledge expands and they start to become God themselves. God creates life but soon, human will be able to create life from nothingness too. Human is God in a sense.

In the end, when humanity finally will have the ability to create high-level artificial intelligence, they will have their own admirer but when their creation becomes human itself, human will have to secede from God’s throne and present it to their own toy, the A.I.

I believe if human wants to call themselves God, Asimov’s third law must be observed carefully.

The Original Three Laws of Robotic.

First Law: A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

Second Law: A robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

[47] Of building a gallery

Updating a site needs a lot of determination. Unfortunately, determination is what I’m lacking right now. I am finding myself losing a grip on life. I’m losing track of my own life. Never have I found myself so hapless. I am discovering myself losing interest in about everything and I’m trying to entertain myself by laying my head on my desk, listening to a few mp3s. In fact, my computer is playing The Rembrandt’s I’ll Be There For You and Madonna’s Take a Bow over and over again. Sometimes, it plays to Bach. Of all the mp3s that are stored inside my hard drive, I do not know why I’m listening again to Bach. Something is definitely wrong with me but I don’t know what. I need help, fast.

Well, The __earth Inc. is running a project. Basically, the project is about taking scenic photographs. Nevertheless, other interesting themes are also accepted. So far, I have 4 volunteers including myself. The two of them are from Wisconsin and Indiana in USA and other is from Australia. I’m still in seach of more volunteers.

For further information, join The __earth Inc. Community. All of the photographs will be posted in the Gallery section soon.

[46] Of mailstorm!

I love Rachel, Chandler, Ross, Joey, Phoebe and Monica.

I hate mailstorm.

I’m thinking of joining a crusade against ITD. Just for the fun of it.

An open email to the population of Umich from David Jaeyeong Choi

Alrighty, I’ve had enough… time to let those lazy ITD bastards get a taste of this. NEone who wants to reply to all, use this message to reply to all so that root, webmaster, postmaster AND abuse get the junk we’re getting… And again, sorries for contributing to this storm, but this
HAS
TO BE DONE for the storm to come to an end.

[45] Of Belief-o-matic

Do you not see that Allah sends down water from the cloud so the earth becomes green? Surely Allah is Benignant, Aware.

– The Koran, The Pilgrimage (22.63)

And in the earth there are tracts side by side and gardens of grapes and corn and palm trees having one root and (others) having distinct roots– they are watered with one water, and We make some of them excel others in fruit; most surely there are signs in this for a people who understand.

– The Koran, The Thunder (13.4)

The religions, according to Belief-o-matic, that I am related to. Interesting, Judaism gains two of the top three spots. Maybe that because the the similarity Judaism and Islam share.

1. Reform Judaism (100%)
2. Islam (96%)
3. Orthodox Judaism (96%)
4. Sikhism (92%)
5. Baha’i (83%)
6. Liberal Quaker (79%)
7. Unitarian Universalism (73%)
8. Jainism (65%)
9. Liberal Protestant (61%)
10. Orthodox Quaker (60%)
11. Latter-day Saint (Mormon) (57%)
12. Jehovah’s Witness (52%)

24. Atheism and Agnosticism (33%)
25. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (31%)
26. Theravada Buddhism (28%)
27. Taoism (24%)

I took the test for the second time through an Agnostic’s eyes but the result was largely the same with Atheism gained significant rungs.
