[1424] Of I hate Stanford

Why?

For what they did to the UM Solar Car Team:

In the first hour of racing today, Continuum has had an accident. Spencer Bailey was the driver of Continuum, and aside from a small scratch on his leg, he is perfectly fine. After the Stanford Solar Car Team passed our Team, they stopped abruptly, causing our lead driver to stop, and Continuum to hit our lead vehicle.

As for the car, the concentrator canopy is cracked in multiple places and will be replaced with our spare. The front of the car will need to be repaired and the front solar modules replaced. There was also delamination seen in some of the front bulkheads. [Continuum Accident. The University of Michigan Solar Car Team Blog. October 20 2007]

From Stanford’s point of view:

Starting out from Darwin was incredibly hectic, They started solarcars every minute, however, the officials didn’t let the rest of the caravan vehicles know when to leave, so we had to fight though all the other teams out of a parking lot, being blocked by 3 or 4 vehicles for the FH Bochum team (large vans filled with lots and lots of Germans) waiting at the exit for their solarcar and blocking traffic. When Ryan pulled out of the starting line with Equinox, he ended up driving a good 10 minutes unprotected by our lead and chase vehicles through the busy streets of darwin. We ended up catching up with our solarcar as it was sitting in an intersection in the middle of traffic. Incidentally, about a minute after we passed through, University of Michigan’s car had some kind of accident and ended up running into lead and effectively putting them out of the race, which is really too bad, as this year’s team is loads and loads more friendly and outgoing than previous years, at least that’s what we hear. (for an event attended by mostly male engineers, there’s a surprising amount of gossiping that goes on at WSC). [WSC Day 1. Stanford Solar Car. October 21 2007]

Further:

I asked about the incident with Michigan and was told that the Stanford convoy never came to a stop and claims no culpability in the collision between their lead vehicle and their solar car. Their race observer agrees. Michigan has started up again and seems to be passing by teams that have even had a day’s head start. We all hope that the race officials grant them a clock reset. [Finally, a call from Australia. Stanford Solar Car Project. October 22 2007]

If you go to Stanford’s blog, seems like they have issues with Michigan. (Stanford friends, I still love you guys!)

Anyway, Michigan finishes 7th because of the accident. Michigan started the race with a clear goal of finishing better than third; Michigan has finished the race third three times but well, seven is better than not finishing at all. As for Stanford, they failed to finish the race. They suffered a terrible accident; the car rolled over! I am glad nobody was hurt.

[1417] Of Michigan @ Illinois

THAT, must be a touchdown!

Illinois 14, Michigan 17 at halftime. Illinois should have not roughed Emperor Zoltan!

Aww, Mallet is taking Henne’s place. This bout of injuries is hurting Michigan’s chance.

While listening to the game at Illinois, I am watching a replay for the rugby match between South Africa and England. Did I just see somebody being chased by a policeman in the middle of the field while a scrum was being played out?

I want Henne!

17 – 17. And I want Henne! Coach! We want Henne!

That was almost a disaster but the Michigan momentum is good.

Mallet threw an interception just under 5 yards from the endzone. Argh!

So close to a TD.

Peeps at Illinois need to stop pulling that face mask. That is a 15-point penalty.

Illinois fumbled at its own 15-yard line. AND MICHIGAN RECOVERS IT!

TD. =)

Michigan and Ohio State are the only undefeated teams in the Big Ten. And by looking at the current ranking, I bet Michigan to rise to above #20.

[1413] Of a ranked Michigan

Well, I was wrong.

Michigan is now ranked #24 in the AP.

And after a weekend of upsets, Ohio State is now #1. I hope they will stay at #1 until November 17; on the same day, Michigan will pull the rug under OSU so hard that they’d wish they were never born.

Oh, yeah, which is a greater upset?

[1410] Of Michigan and Purdue

Eid? Eid?

It is Michigan and I am certainly not going to miss it. I bleed maize and blue!

Purdue are pissing in their pants!

Sing it!

Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu’ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
the champions of the West!

SACKED! w00t!

Ah, I hate karma. Purdue got a turnover at Michigan’s 5.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

The last few minutes were filled with efficient plays. Too bad it ended with only 3 points for Michigan.

w0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000! Purdue fumbled on their own 37!

TOUCHDOWN! And Mike Hart is my God!

Illinois-Iowa game could be the most boring game today. It is nearing halftime and it is tied at 3. Yes, I kid you not.

Point with an e. Point with an e. Point with an e. Point with an e. Point with an e. Point with an e. Point with an e.

Oh, no. Hart is hurt. Looks serious. Ankle.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

Hart is out but Purdue threw an INTERCEPTION! And then, TOUCHDOWN MICHIGAN! 31-7.

This is why Michigan was ranked #5 pre-season. It is halftime now.

Oh, I pity Purdue. Just out from a bad game against Ohio State, they just have to travel to Ann Arbor for a worse game.

Purdue 7 – Michigan 41.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

This is harsh:

Big halftime debate is whether, at 5-2 with a dominating victory, the Wolverines should crack the AP Top 25. My guess is the voters will rank them, although I wouldn’t if I were voting this year, and I’ll be surprised if our football writer, John Heuser, who is a voter puts them in his ballot. Michigan is just too unproven and Purdue – as we predicted prior to the game – is clearly (as usual) a fraud built on scheduling. [LIVE BLOG: Michigan 41 Purdue 7. Jim Carty. October 13 2007]

Hahaha. Maybe not so. Another turnover; Michigan got the ball and another TD is in sight!

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

Illinois is down. Just like what was said at MGoBlog, “Damn. I wanted to beat a 1-loss Illinois team.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

Purdue 7 – Michigan 48.

FYI, Kent 3 – OSU 48.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

Well, the only two unbeaten teams in the Big Ten, conference-wise, are Michigan and Ohio State. Illinois does not want to wait for the game against Michigan. Blergh. Michigan could use a ranked Illinois.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

Mallet replaces Henne. C’mon Mallet. Just 2 more points to 50!

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

Aww. Purdue got another TD and Michigan, with only less than a minute on the clock, won’t break that pretty number 50. So, will Michigan be ranked?

I doubt so but let us find out on Monday.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

The backup team replaces the whole Michigan team and now, it is Purdue 21, Michigan 48. But there are less than 20 seconds anyway.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

Final. I still wish Carr had not replaced the team with backup. I would prefer to keep Purdue from getting two-digit score and boost Meeeeechigan’s shot at the ranking.

[1399] Of is Wisconsin overrated?

I expected Wisconsin to steamroll over Illinois but at halftime, the latter leads the former with the scoreline of 17 to 6. Wisconsin has yet to get a touchdown.

As for Michigan, I think we should have done better but with half way to go, it is 16 for Michigan against 8 for Eastern Michigan. The not-so-good news is this: Henne’s hand suffered a cut. I do not know how serious it is but he seems to be playing okay despite the cut. According to the commentators, blood is visible.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

p/s — okay. At the start of the third quarter, the game in Ann Arbor is getting scary for Michigan.

Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved Mohd Hafiz Noor Shams. Some rights reserved

pp/s — about two weeks ago, Stanford almost gave Oregon a lot of problem. Today, USC got that problem; final score is 23 USC, 24 Stanford. Oh boy. That is going to pull USC way down the chart. I suppose, just like Michigan or any other team that goes a long way, the fairy tale has to end sooner or later.

And oh yeah, Michigan won. Not convincingly but we won nonetheless.
