[963] Of meeting NYT columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas Friedman

Alright. It wasn’t me that met Thomas Friedman. Rather, it was two of my Michigan friends whom are currently based in Beijing. One of the two friends sent a few photos over to me just to make me jealous.

So, this is Friedman signing a book:

Yes. That’s Friedman. And nope. I’m not jealous.

And this is the two friends in the picture. This is a photo with a friend and Friedman in it. This is just to prove that he and she really met Friedman and the picture was not picked up from somewhere…

If that isn’t enough (still not jealous)…

She got her copy signed. And mine is not!

And also, one of the two friends (as he insists, he’s not in the picture) gave his business card to Friedman!

Alright! Alright! I admit it. I’m seriously jealous!

Also, according to the friend, he paraphrased it I suppose, he had a conversation with Friedman:

“Sir, you wrote about my company, [name withheld], in your book. I am actually here in China to set up the same operation like the one in Bangalore”.

He looked up and say “That’s great”.

“Yeah… I guess I am doing a really good job… So now my colleagues back in Singapore may get fired sooner than scheduled….”

TF: “I am sorry to hear that…. but it’s really interesting…”

This was taken near Jalan Telawi, Bangsar, quite nearby to this photo. See also a similar shot that was taken in Singapore months ago.

[934] Of bye bye Southern California

I slept late last night listening to the Michigan-Northwestern game. Michigan won though I expected the Wolverines to skin the Wildcats, it was nothing compared to what the Buckeyes did to the Golden Gophers. Michigan won 17-3. Ohio State won 44-0.

But truly, the biggest news this week doesn’t revolve around Michigan and Ohio State. USC got the honor, for the wrong reason if I might add; USC lost to Oregon 33-31. The loss changes a lot of things:

USC started the day as was one of seven unbeaten teams in the country. Now there are six.

Ohio State and Michigan won their games and will hold on to the top two spots in the Bowl Championship Series standings when they come out Sunday. That valuable spot behind the Big Ten powers, previously held by USC, is now up for grabs. All those teams with one loss are feeling a lot better about their chances to play for a national title. And Thursday’s Big East battle of unbeatens between West Virginia and Louisville just got a little bigger.

Enough of USC. I don’t love USC as much as I love…

[929] Of at Madam Kwan’s

It’s been awhile since I last posted a photo of my own. I’m only happy to do so now.

Not too long ago, I broke my fast at a restaurant in Suria KLCC and brought along my cam:

I didn’t directly pay for it but I’m sure it’s overpriced. Still, it was good food. And man, people actually lined up to get a table there. Thank goodness for the discoverer of reservation.

During the duration of the last Ramadan, I became increasingly disturbed with the liberal use of the terms breakfast and break fast. Some genuinely used the word breakfast while others are ignorant of the difference between the two terms, hence promoting unnecessary misunderstanding.

Anyway, the photo itself seems to be out of focus. But hell.

One more thing. I’ve added a related post plugin from Wasabi. There are several options but the one I’m currently using is the most hassle free. Nevertheless, the algorithm is only as half as effective. Half of the time, unrelated posts are listed as related. Still, having it is better than not having it.
