{"id":663,"date":"2005-11-18T02:36:00","date_gmt":"2005-11-18T02:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maddruid.com\/wp\/?p=663"},"modified":"2006-12-20T13:29:06","modified_gmt":"2006-12-20T05:29:06","slug":"679448-of-negative-real-interest-rate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maddruid.com\/?p=663","title":{"rendered":"[679:448] Of negative real interest rate?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apart from Bucking the Fuckeyes, something odd came across my mind earlier.<\/p>\n<p>If Malaysian nominal interest rate currently hovers around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bnm.gov.my\/index.php?ch=12&#038;pg=136&#038;lang=en&#038;StartMth=1&#038;StartYr=1997&#038;EndMth=11&#038;EndYr=2005\">2.7% according to Bank Negara<\/a> (Interbank interest rate), as it has been for many months now while inflation for October is around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.btimes.com.my\/Current_News\/BT\/Monday\/Nation\/20051113232357\/Article\/\">3.2% according to Business Times<\/a>, then wouldn&#8217;t that mean, according to Fisher equation, Malaysia had a negative real interest rate a few weeks ago?<\/p>\n<p>Something is wrong here. Am I taking the right interest rate?<\/p>\n<p>Base lending rate (BLR) however is 6%, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maybank2u.com.my\/rates\/rates_menu.shtml\">Maybank<\/a> while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abnamro.com.my\/BankRates\/default.asp\">ABN Amro Malaysia<\/a> offers 5.5%.
