The waves drawn on the sand, towering dunes, deep temporary gullies and the shade make such\u00a0landscape\u00a0of emptiness somehow fulfilling.<\/p>\n<p>Technically, the place above is not a desert. Port Stephens in New South Wales, Australia is close to the beach and the dunes are surrounded by trees. It is definitely not dry and even at the height of day, it was cooling.<\/p>\n<p>But for all intends and purposes, it is for me. I have been to places with sand dunes back in Michigan but the dunes in Michigan \u2014 the Sleeping Bear Dunes by Lake Michigan \u2014 are no match for the one I saw several days ago.<\/p>\n<p>The place so vast that it is enough for my imagination to run loose.<\/p>\n<p>For once, I thought I could live with nothing, because it was beautiful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vast empty space filled with sand reminds one of hostile barren desert.
