On Wednesday, in the city of Wuhan in central China, a search expedition, under the direction of the Institute for Hydrobiology Wuhan and the Swiss-based  baiji.org Foundation, drew to a finish without any results.  During the six-week expedition scientists from six nations desperately searched the Yangtze in vain.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Yangtze is also the location of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Three_Gorges_Dam&#038;oldid=94372498\">Three Gorges Dam<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Geographic Society, this is the first extinction of large mammal in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/news.nationalgeographic.com\/news\/2006\/12\/061214-dolphin-extinct.html\">recent decades<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If Pfluger&#8217;s team is correct, the baiji will be the first large aquatic mammal to have gone extinct since hunting and overfishing killed off the Caribbean monk seal in the 1950s.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is truly a sad week.<\/p>\n<p>We, Malaysians have our own river dolphin, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Fraser%27s_Dolphin&#038;oldid=93461905\">Fraser&#8217;s Dolphin<\/a>, also known as the Sarawak Dolphin.
